About this web site

This web site was originally created on the University of Glasgow web server. It was my first attempt at a web page so it was pretty basic. I was in my 3rd year of my Computing Science degree then.

After I left University, I didn't have Internet access of my own so it was hosted by my friend, Alistair McMillan. He also redesigned it and made it look a lot nicer.

When I eventually got Internet access I hosted it myself. I have now completely redesigned it again to properly use CSS for the layout.

Made with PPWizard Created with EditPad Valid HTML 4.01! Valid CSS!

About me

I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not to tell you a bit about me. I always find it disappointing when I've built up an image of someone based entirely on their opinions on the Internet and then I find out about what they are really like. However, I'm going to anyway, but it's probably best you don't read it.

First I'm going to give you a quick rundown of the boring basics to get it out of the way. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1975 (that makes me 28 at the time of writing in 2004). Got a BSc honours in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. Moved out after I finished my degree and got a job as a computer programmer in Oxfordshire, England. I'm currently single. OK, that's enough of that. Now I'll really tell you about me.

As you probably noticed from this web site, I am very opinionated. I do stick quite strongly to my opinions but not so much that I couldn't be persuaded to change them by a good argument. I think the only thing that I don't have an opinion on is fox hunting. The problem is, whenever you see an argument on TV about it, on the one side you have the hippy freaks that value animals over humans, and the other side has the snooty upper class ponces that don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. I just can't bring myself to side with either of them. Also I just don't really care, I can't see why people make such a big issue out of fox hunting. Anyway, back to the point, I'm very opinionated. I think the reason for that is that I'm compensating for not having any opinions at all when I was a child. I just can't remember thinking anything about anything except that my brothers were a pain in the arse. Mind you I think that was probably a good thing, kids shouldn't be allowed opinions because they never think for themselves anyway. Whenever a kid has an opinion on something it's always just what they've heard their parents say, unless it's about sweeties or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I'm a big fan of video games. I stared with a Spectrum 48K when I was wee. I used to play it with my wee brother a lot. My wee brother was always better than me which was a bit annoying, but I didn't mind that much, he was happier when he won. We eventually got a Spectrum +2 and had that way past the time that it was cool to have a Spectrum. Everyone else had a SNES or a Sega Megadrive. The next computer we got was a PC. It was a 486DX 33Mhz, 4MB RAM, and 100MB hard drive, with Windows 3.1. That was a pretty top range computer back then but I didn't really know it at the time. Every time I got a new video game for it though, I had to mess about with the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to load things in to high memory, turn EMS on or off, etc. just to get the bloody thing working. It was such a relief when Windows 95 came along. After I left home, I bought a Nintendo GameBoy. That was my first ever console. Since then I've become a bit of a Nintendo fan. I bought a N64 after that, then I bought an old SNES on eBay. I now have a Nintendo GameCube and a GameBoy Advance SP. I also have a pretty decent PC which I play games on.

Actually, I'm into most of the stuff you associate with geeks: computers, Star Trek, video games and so on. But I like to think I'm not as much of a geek as most. For instance I don't dress up as a Klingon and sit and pick stupid holes in every episode of Star Trek. I also don't spout bullshit about the latest cool thing in computers like I know all about it. And I don't even wear glasses.

I don't like sports much, but my wee brother keeps me up to date about how Glasgow Rangers (that's a soccer team for all you Americans) are doing. The only sport I tend to watch is snooker. A lot of people think snooker is boring but I just find it a bit more interesting that most sports. Also, Scottish people actually seem to be good at it!

That's about all I can think of for now. If there's anything else you want to know, or anything that is here that you would have rather not known then please Contact me.
